My Birthday: Da Paolo Bistro Bar

My birthday was surrounded with good food and love. That makes me a very happy 28 year old. Will let the pictures do the talking.

Poor in health but rich in spirit!

Hello! Haven't been in here for a really long time. I wonder who still reads this blog.

I'm really in the mood to post something today so here goes.

Who still remembers my bad archilles heel? I'm not an injury prone person but for some reason, yoga is really destroying my body. I've endured badly strained wrist, swollen archilles tendon and a painfully strained neck. I wonder if I should take it easy with yoga or just stop completely. Taking it easy is not a problem but it'll feel like I didn't do much at the end of the session and it's really a waste of my effort and time.

In the midst of all these, I'm anticipating my period and I've gotten the viral bug. Currently nursing a sore lymph node and blocked ears cum nose. I actually seund lik tis naw *pinched nose*

The best thing about being sick is to be ridiculously pampered. Not that the pamperer can take away my sickness but just having someone around to check on you feels good.

My boyfriend is like my rock. Solid and immovable. I know I can lean on him for life. Exactly what I'm going to do.

I'm on sick leave today but I'm not at all down in spirits. I feel darn sleepy though and can't wait to reach home and rest.

On a side note, I'm leaving for a church camp to KL in 3 weeks. Can't wait to bask in His presence and hear His words. In September, I'm heading to Bali, Indonesia with Ying. Our second trip together in a while. Gonna be fun! It's going to be an extended holiday as we'll jet set to Jakarta after that to meet with Manda, Sheena and Nick. It's all going to be great!

Hopefully I'll muster up enough energy to blog about my Taiwan trip next.

Ending 2011 on a good note

It's the very last day of 2011, what have you done for yourself? Surely 2012 will be even better. With faith, hope and belief, I can feel it coming true.

2011 was a really good year for me in many aspect of the word. I finally learnt to be a better person to my people who mean the world to me. Things were done for them that came from the heart and not out of obligation. In addition, I've learnt to prioritise myself over work. Work is still work after all.

I've always set goals for the year ahead but it was never about health. Yes, I've been taking it for granted. I've never been sick in health. Not really one of severity anyway. I'm no longer 18 but 28 in coming year. I can do late nights no more nor stay slim forever. Thankfully, no lines on my face yet but not taking it for granted either.

I'm not one to go out of my way to make changes. I believe in paying attention to the least consequential things in life that have potential of landing a huge impact in the long run. It's the small details over time that counts.

This new year, I'm going to listen to my health. It's everything to me. Without it, nothing else matters. I pray for constant good health to those around me.

Cheers to doing things differently this coming new year! Have a good one ahead y'all and happy holidays :)

Just saying (because I can)

Sometimes you need to hurt one effing big time to learn what 'better' means. I know I have.

And I'll also throw in a kick to the ego. Screw that e-to-the-go. What you need to pull yourself together with is lots of belief and hope in yourself as well as what life have to offer. Even when there's none, zilch, zero.

What a mass of energy and patience one must possess to go through a heart ache.

Glad I'm all done with that.

Don't forget your friends and family. You really need them for their wisdom or otherwise, company.

Tonight, I realised how blessed I am to be where I'm at. In the loving arms of a man I love.

Happy graduation my love 😘

Good guys finish first ♥

I could have written this myself when I saw it on thoughtcatalog.com, and found it super relatable in every sense of the word:

1) I'm not that girl who dates bad boys.

2) Also, people used to call me sweet but not anymore.

3) I'm not interested to fix or change anyone.

4) Lastly, I'm all in for the long haul.

On Dating Good Guys

JUL. 18, 2011

There seems to be this undercurrent of asshole-loving lately; my peers justifying their ill-advised decision to partner with people they believe can and will ‘change.’ I’m all about personal preference, but it seems that while the Nice Guy/Asshole debate rages on, no one has stood up for the Good Guys.

When I was younger (whatever age you are when people actually sign yearbooks), there was this one descriptor that people always included when signing my autograph book or what-have-you. ‘Sweet.’ “Stay sweet, Stephanie,” or “You’re such a sweet girl.” It’s funny; I don’t think anyone has called me ‘sweet’ since I was thirteen, probably – but at the time, it was a recurring theme. I was sweet.

I don’t believe I’m inherently ‘unsweetened’ now, but I’ve developed somewhat of an acerbic tinge. I won’t shy away from expressing my opinion (unless I’ve predetermined that my opponent will likely refer to out-of-context talking points that they picked up from Rush Limbaugh – in that case, I won’t waste my breath). I am a master of dirty looks, the silent treatment, and making apparent when someone’s actions are unacceptable. I can, at times, be a raging bitch.

These two polarizing aspects of my personality (along with many others) coexist peaceably. I try to be thoughtful, I do nice things for other people because I want to, I am genuine when expressing emotion (OMG I know, earnestness, gross!). But I also won’t take your crap, and if you give me enough of it, I will peace out of your life and I will not regret it. Count on that. I am capable of being a warm blanket of golden light, but I’m also capable of being a laser beam that will effing cut you. In other words, I am the nice guy. And I am the asshole. We all are, to some degree.

Which is why, when given the choice, I want to date a Good Guy. I want someone who is a real, flawed human being – someone who, despite those flaws, makes the conscious, ongoing effort to act benevolently toward the people around him. Because there is no such thing as An Asshole and A Nice Guy and if that’s all we can say about these people, what they really are is An Actor. A one-dimensional character whose actions are motivated by the desire to project a controlled, steadfast image to the world.

I do not want to fix someone. I’m too busy working on myself. I wouldn’t want to date someone who isn’t doing the same, who doesn’t see the value in growth. I’m not here to hold someone’s hand while they learn how to grow up. I’m not a pre-school teacher; I’m not a therapist. A man is not an art project to be cut up into little pieces and glued back together. You’re your own fixer-upper, honey; do with that what you will.

I want to be with someone who respects me, someone who I can respect. I do not want to tote around some unruly asshole, a discount handbag that looks impressive on the outside but is really falling apart at the seams. This would be a reflection of my own bad taste and insecurity, dating some mess of a person who doesn’t use the words, ‘Please’ and ‘Thank You,’ someone who has no consideration for other people. I don’t want to introduce that person to my friends, or to my family – who all happen to be Good People who have a low tolerance for assholes.

I don’t want to date someone indifferent to themselves or to me. Is it an oddity that I don’t want to be treated like crap? I do not have time to hopelessly await someone’s phone call; I do not have time to place heaps of unwarranted blame on myself when someone or something seemingly ‘disappears.’ I don’t have the time to jump through hoops to prove that I am worthy of someone’s affections, and even if I did have the time? That’s not how I would spend it.

No, I want a Good Guy – someone who is a good person before I date him, while I date him, and after I date him. Someone who is capable of letting go of whatever Grave Injustices were done to him, who doesn’t blame the world for his misfortunes. Someone who respects himself, who wants to be with someone who will treat him the way he deserves to be treated. Someone who is nice but not a doormat, someone who is confident but not an asshole. Someone who gets to date a Good Person by being one, not by appealing to a girl’s desire to ‘fix’ their self-perpetuated damage.

So, to the ladies who want assholes, keep them. I’ll take the sane, emotionally stable man any day.

Where was Nick?

My boyfriend went missing quarter past twelve tonight for half an hour. It was 15 minutes after we said good night and hung up.

His mom had first called me to check if nick was with me. He wasn't and I quipped he must be sleeping soundly already.

After a bit of back and forth, nobody knows where our dear nick went and he wasn't answering calls (it went to voicemail) so everybody started to panic a little. I actually freaked out as this missing person drama is so uncharacteristically unlike him.

My sweet sister consoled me with a myriad of reasonings, mostly not to make me worry. Super grateful for that. I also texted his friend to check but wasn't given any reply. I almost contemplated calling my best friend to seek advice and consolation but saw from her social media activities that she's offline for more than 2 hours.

I called and called his phone hoping to get through, though it's already off so I only got to the operated voicemail.

By this time I was ready to fly to his house to help search for him.

Then I received a call.

"Michelle this is auntie, he's back already. He went to the car to take something."

!!!

So the story of my life is that he parked his car 15 minutes away from his house and he just had to grab the stuff I entrusted him to bring home ie clothes and rocher egg tarts. JUST before he almost went to bed and AFTER he switched off his phone because it hit him that if the food turned bad and my clothes smell like rotten food, I'd be pretty darn mad at him.

(Okay at this point I know I need to reflect on myself.)

Anyway he's banned from switching off his phone. Period.

It's like God is saying 'Look who's freaking out now?'
